China Delivers Second Batch of Medical Supplies to Fight COVID-19 in Dominica
The Chinese government has delivered a second batch of medical supplies to fight COVID-19 in Dominica. The latest donation includes 15 ventilators and forehead thermometers among other relevant necessities for preventing and treating coronavirus. The medical donations were handed over at the China Dominica Friendship Hospital, with a promise that the third batch of medical donations will arrive the island soon.
The medical supplies were personally delivered by Luo Songtao, a counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Dominica. On hand at the hand-over were Dr. Irving McIntyre, Minister for Health; Reginald Austrie, Minister for Housing and Urban Development; and Kenneth Darroux, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations.
Luo Songtao said the donation was to further the bilateral relationship between China and Dominica, and to wage a joint warfare against the COVID-19 pandemic. The Chinese government said they will continue to provide Dominica with the medical expertise and technical resources required to contain the spread of coronavirus in Dominica as well as cure infected patients.
Reginald Austrie, speaking on behalf of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, thanked the Chinese government for the donations, saying the medical supplies will go a long way towards eliminating coronavirus in Dominica. He said the assistance is a demonstration of the strong relationship that exists between China and Dominica.
Just last week, the Jack Ma Foundation and the Alibaba Foundation in China donated the first batch of supplies to the island and these comprised of 1,536 coronavirus test kits, 30,000 surgical masks, and other major materials towards fighting the pandemic. The Asian nation promised that protective clothing, face masks, goggles, and thermometers among other items will still be donated to Dominica as they become available.
