The Chinese government has donated specialized medical equipment to the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital in Dominica (DCFH). The medical supplies were handed over by Wang Quanhuo of the Office of the Chinese Embassy in Dominica and they were received by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Leticia Lestrate-Wyke. The supplies would be deployed for medical diagnosis and minimally-invasive surgery.
Some of the medical devices include:
- Full digital colour Doppler ultrasound diagnostic system
- Wireless full digital ultrasound scanner
- 24-hour Holter
- 24-hour ABPM
- Wolf laparoscopic needle holder
- Konky laparoscopic Hem-o-lock pliers and clamps
- Portable slit lamp
- Contact fundus laser Diagnosis mirror, etc.
Quanhuo disclosed that even though China is battling the spread of COVID-19 at the moment, his government will continue to be of assistance to Dominica if coronavirus ever occurs on the island. He said China will share its medical experience and expertise with Dominica, and that the Chinese National Health Commission will further donate test kits for COVID-19 at the appropriate time. He also said his government will assist to complete the construction of the DCFH so that it can be the best in the region.
Leticia Lestrate-Wyke on behalf of the Dominican government thanked the Chinese for their generosity, and promised that the medical equipment will be put to good use. She thanked the Chinese Medical Team for their continual support for Dominica, adding that the DCFH has really been instrumental in promoting health and wellbeing on the island. She expressed hopes that both China and Dominica will continue to achieve giant strides in their bilateral relations.
