The representatives of the Chinese government have handed over the completed Phase 3 project of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital to the Dominican government. The Chinese government gave the certificate for the completed Phase 3 project to the officials of the Ministry of Health on January 11, 2021, marking another milestone in the execution of the giant healthcare facility.
Parliamentary secretary in the health ministry, Kent Edwards, described the completed phase as including a medical technology facility, intensive care unit, a blood bank service, operating theatre, an outpatient building, and surgical wards among other facilities.
“This completed phase encompasses the number 2 medical technology building,” Edwards said. “This is a two-story building that houses an 8-bed capacity intensive care unit, blood bank unit, on the first floor, and the operating theatre on the second floor. The operating theatre has four operating rooms and is also fully equipped for telemedicine, a medical service that is being fully embraced by the ministry.”
The new outpatient building will allow medical professionals to attend to outpatient patients in one strategic location, and the building also houses a temporary ward for surgical operations. While this facility will serve as surgical wards on a temporary basis, a permanent 4-storey inpatient building 1 and 2 will be constructed to serve as the permanent male and female surgical wards.
