CITP Officially Opens; 16 Local Artists for WCMF

Wife of the President of Dominica, Her Excellency Clara J. Savarin, conducted the ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the official opening of this year’s Creole in the Park (CITP) celebrations. The event sponsored by FLOW, will hold at the Botanical Gardens and promises to showcase the best of Dominican artistes, culture, cuisines and traditional values. Regional musicians and foreign tourists will be there, including Miss Dominica 2019 winner, Marisol John.

As part of the CITP celebrations, the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) will also be ongoing with 16 local artistes billed to perform alongside regional and foreign stars. The Dominica Festivals Committee announced that the 16 musicians will perform at the Food Court stage in what is to be known as the Forecourt Experience – this is the intermissions between the main performances.

The events will support local artistes as well as promote their brands across the country and beyond. To this extent, Dominican star Brandon King released the official video of his latest hit “Time”, his first official music video ever. A Jersey City resident originally from Marigot, Brandon King studied computer science and honed his skills at music production and videography over a five-year period before releasing his major tracks.

During this time, he also invested in music recording equipment and software.

“My musical journey started when entering high school (North East comprehensive School) in 2009,” King said. “There I met with Irv ‘Oozy’ Antoine who was also an upcoming artist, vocal engineer and mixer from Marigot.”

Oozy connected him and other friends from Marigot to form a music group. King’s latest track featured Oozy, owner of MussBuss production which created the recording and also produced the official video. King looks forward to setting up his own video recording business in the future, but his immediate concern is to grow his fan base and enlarge his musical career worldwide.

Brandon King has an advice for upcoming artistes:

“For persons starting out, first study your craft and love it,” he counseled. “Find and work with people who have the same goals as you. Don’t be discouraged by lack of success, praise and results that you get from your product. Evaluating your target market for your music is necessary… treat it as a business and invest in it.”

Meanwhile, both the Creole in the Park and the World Creole Music Festival remain ongoing, with Dominicans and foreigners enjoying their best lives at the celebrations.
