Cleanup and Beautification; Main Focus On National Day of Community Service

Cleanup and beautification to be the main focus on National Day of Community Service On November 5. Local Government Commissioner, Glenroy Toussaint, said $250,000 has been earmarked to facilitate the success of the approaching national community service day, adding this year’s celebrations will focus more on cleanup and beautification.

Toussaint said all communities in Dominica will be reached during the exercise, revealing that interest groups and development committees and local authorities have all be sensitized on the coming event. He said road repairs will be pushed to the rear this time around, with landscape beautification elevated.

The local government commissioner said blocked drains will be cleaned out and culverts cleaned to aid free flow of water. He disclosed that overhanging trees will also be trimmed down and bushways will be cut will be cut down. The cutting down or trimming of hanging trees will ensure safety of people’s lives everywhere they go.

Exotic plants and flower planting is also part of the activities to be carried out.

“Let us beautify…let us ensure that we don’t just talk the talk…and ensure that we collectively do what we can to continue with that theme of saying Dominica is the Nature Isle,” he said. Toussaint stated that since Hurricane Maria devasted Dominica a couple years back, all hands must be on deck to ensure that the island is fully restored and beautified
