Clement Marcellin Steps Forward to Contest For Political Leadership of UWP

Clement Marcellin has stepped forward to contest for the political leadership of the United Workers Party (UWP). Since the resignation of former political leader and parliamentary opposition leader Lennox Linton on September 30, the UWP has been without a substantive political leader even though Francisca Joseph has been serving as acting political leader.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Marcellin said he is contesting for the position of the UWP’s political leader due to overwhelming calls from across the country. He said Dominicans everywhere want him to serve as the major opposition party’s political leader, and that this demonstrates confidence in his ability to take the country from Egypt across the Red Sea to Canaan.

“These are very challenging and unprecedented times and Dominicans are demanding honest and compassionate leadership to lift them out of the darkness and into the light,” the young politician who contested as Vieille Case’s representative in 2019 said. “Considering the dismal state of affairs, a depressed economic climate, decaying social values, and more importantly, a threatened democracy, we must be united in our fight to rescue Dominica.”

Marcellin pleaded with all Dominicans to rally around him to make him win the position. He said becoming the political leader of the UWP will guarantee a better future for everyone to “walk in the light.” He noted that it is high time the opposition came out stronger to unseat the DLP, and that he is the most qualified person to lead the UWP on that political mandate.
