Clergy Blames Religious Apathy as Reasons for Increase in Sexual Abuse Cases
A clergy has blamed religious apathy as the reasons for increased sexual abuse cases in Dominica. Pastor Gerard Benjamin disclosed that since the people rejected to serve God in private and national life, it is not surprising that sexual abuse and other social vices have increased in society.
According to Pastor Benjamin, when people reject the ordinance and principles of God, it gives rise to the prevalence of perversion and corruption in society. The man of God said acts of abuse and perversion, as well as violent crimes, take root in any society that rejects or undermines the rule of God for society.
He pointed to several cases where acts of rape, incest, homosexuality and LGBT activities have increased following Hurricane Maria. He blamed the government for doing little or nothing to truly channel people to the will of God despite increase in crimes and disregard for constituted authorities.
He credited the government for recent national prayers and rededicating the nation back to God, but calls for more to be done to have everyone serve God in truth and fear. He also called on the government to institute spiritual programmes that will turn the hearts of youths away from sexual perversions and social crimes to religious inclinations and moral correctness. Except for the government and religious leaders prioritize this, the nation will continue to wallow in various acts of turpitude and corruption, Benjamin stated.
