The police authorities have revealed that community policing and neighbourhood watch will be implemented this year. Acting Police Chief Lincoln Corbette announced this recently and PM Roosevelt Skerrit appears to be favourably disposed to the innovation. The government said the idea will increase public safety and police-citizen interaction in Dominica.
Corbette said police authorities will be holding a series of consultations with communities in the coming weeks to ground the idea. He said everyone will benefit from the implementation and that it will involve collaboration with all stakeholders across the country.
Community policing is another area we will be focusing on this year. We intend to hold a series of meetings and discussions throughout the island and set up neighbourhood watches and other activities. We will have meetings throughout the island; the intention is to set up different groups throughout the communities so that we can better police Dominica.

PM Skerrit said he has reviewed the Community Policing Action Plan presented by the police and that it is a worthy of implementation. He said he read through the proposal and he believes the Minister of National Security, Rayburn Blackmoore, will be favourably disposed to approving it. He noted that the plan execution will cost about $150,000 to launch.
I think my first read of it, it appears to be a very well thought plan. If the police implement this Community Policing Plan as stated in the document, I believe it will go a long way in addressing the number of concerns that we have in the communities and how the police interface with the general public.

Corbette stated that Dominica remains one of the safest countries in the world and enjoys the lowest crime rate in the OECS, and that the community policing plan would go a long way to safeguarding public peace on the Island.
