Coronavirus: Carnival Cruise Outlines Protocols for Protecting Passengers
CEO of Carnival Cruise Corporation, Arnold Donald, has outlined the cruise’s protocols for protecting passengers against coronavirus. Speaking to CARICOM heads of government, Donald said the protocols have always been in place during past global pandemics such as Zika virus, Ebola, and SARS among others.
He said the ships visit over 700 ports a year and it is crucial to safeguard the health of passengers from around the world. He stated that the cruise prioritizes passenger wellbeing, marine safety, environmental protection, and protocol compliance among others. “We have a number of screening procedures and protocol for prevention…” he said. “We have to do this all the time.”
In the face of the health scares associated with coronavirus worldwide, Donald said that Carnival Cruise Corporation has instituted the following preventative protocols to safeguard all passengers:
- Passengers who were in Macau, Hong Kong, or China in the 14 days before embarkation must notify the cruise authorities
- All passengers must comply with pre-boarding health reporting before they check in
- Passengers must submit to medical examinations before boarding and they must fill out screening questionaires
- Passengers must consent to onboarding sanitation with non-toxic materials as well as agree to the cruise’s daily cleaning regimen
Donald also stated that crew members from China, Hong Kong, and Macau are being delayed before boarding any ships, and crew members on airflights from China or Hong Kong are not being accepted at the moment.
“Ultimately, any guest or crew member who has been to China, Hong Kong or Macau in the 14 days prior to embarkation will not be allowed to sail,” he said. “The cruise lines onboard Medical Centers are staffed to handle a wide variety of staff and crew medical situations. The crew knows to report any symptoms of respiratory illness to the onboard medical team, and guests are asked to do the same.”
