The Ministry of Health has confirmed the 15th COVID-19 case in Dominica. Health Minister Dr. Irving McIntyre further revealed that out of the total 109 suspected cases confined to quarantine, some will be released after they tested negative following 14 days of isolation. He disclosed that the government will begin to release those who tested negative after 14 days isolation in quarantine.
He urged Dominicans to see self-isolation as a way of fighting the COVID-19 virus and not as a government excuse to restrict people’s movements. He said those in quarantine are also fighting the virus by remaining in quarantine until they test negative, and that everyone must stay at home to further reduce the spread of the disease.
The minister disclosed that the 15th infection case contracted coronavirus after having contact with the 3rd index patient who is from Concord area of Marigot village.
So far, we have identified three index cases. Index case one gave us nine contacts. So, index case one and the nine contacts would be ten cases. Index case two, we tested all the contacts. They were all negative. Index case three, we got two of the contacts positive and one of the contacts of that contact which is the first second-generation contact, positive. So that means we have a 10 plus I, that’s 11 plus the third one, that’s 12, 2 contacts of number 3, that’s 14 and the one second-generation contact. So that’s 15 cases.
