CWI President Ricky Skerritt tribute to West Indies Super Fan, Keith van Anderson
It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we heard the tearful news of the passing of West Indies Super Fan, Keith van Anderson, also known affectionately to all as “Pipe Man”.
World cricket has lost a major friend and the West Indies team has lost one of its biggest fans. “Pipe Man” will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Keith was Guyana-born, but lived in Britain for over five decades. He was a dedicated supporter, who literally followed West Indies to the ends of the earth and had an unyielding passion for the team he loved.
He was one of the most passionate West Indies fans out there. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he made every match-day experience better for our players, especially when they played in the far-flung nations of the World.
Keith’s love for West Indies cricket and infectious personality brought a spark wherever he went – the players simply loved him, and he was loved by all. His character was priceless, and we won’t see another like him for a long time.
A friend has left us, but his fighting spirit to keep going, exemplified by his long-running battle with his health, and to keep enjoying life no matter what will always remain with us.
Keith’s passing is a major loss to West Indies Cricket and our deepest condolences and sympathies go to his family and friends.
