CXC Registrar Says 63 Students Will Sit for CSEC Exams on Surpass Platform

The Local CXC Registrar, Magalie Celestine, has revealed that 63 students registered for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) holding this January. She said the 63 figure is the highest number of registrants in five years; and these comprise 17 boys and 46 girls. She added that the CSEC will hold electronically online on the Surpass platform this time around.

While the examinations will hold from January 4-31, eight of the 13 subjects for the examination will hold this month. Celestine tasked students to come to the examination hall with their pens, 3B pencils, a scientific calculator, and a geometry set. She also added that registration for the CSEC May-June 2023 is closed and no student can register again.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Octavia Alfred has announced the resumption of school for the second term after the Christmas and New Year holidays. She disclosed that this school term will be filled with various activities which range from sports to arts and craft exhibitions among others. She said that January is a Health and Family Life Education month and that school activities have been designed around the events.

This year schools will be involved in sporting tournaments such as volleyball, Under-20 cricket, Under-12 netball and the women’s and girls’ sports festival. January is also observed as Health and Family Life Education month and we encourage schools to focus on activities that will assist students in developing healthy self-management habits.

February will also be a month where students will focus on costume building, mask making, performing arts, dance, music, and chorale speech. March will be Literacy Month and we will observe literacy in not just the English language but also in French and Creole.

Hon. Octavia Alfred, Minister of Education

The education minister urged students to adhere to sanitary protocols of wearing masks, washing their hands, and staying away if they have flu-like symptoms. “I want to say that it is OK to wear a mask even though we do not have a mask mandate,” she said.
