The Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) in collaboration with the Government of Dominica through the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, Sustainable Development and Renewable Energy and the Global Green Growth Institute, hosted a Private Sector Forum on Wednesday, March 23rd, 2022 at the Fort Young Hotel. This was geared at facilitating the local private sector in leveraging the Green Investment opportunities as Dominica transitions to a low carbon climate resilient economy. The event was the first in a series of planned engagements of this nature.
Miguel Vallone of ROA Partners shared Insights into the form, structure, and accessibility of the National Financing Vehicle, a capital pool that will be deployed to support green projects locally. Dr. Jürg Grütter of Grütter Consulting discussed opportunities in Low Carbon Transport, and a roadmap for transitioning to a low emission transport network. The General Manager of Jamaica Central Securities Depository, Andrea Kelly, apprised participants of the advantages on Bond financing, and the regional framework being developed to support the issuance of Thematic (Green) Bonds.
DAIC commends the Government for its efforts to leverage the Green Climate Fund to transition Dominica to a low carbon climate resilient economy. The chamber is keen for its membership and the wider business community to harness the opportunities arising from this transition, and contribute to the effort by greening their own operations.
DAIC’s President, Mr. Stephen Lander, encouraged all entrepreneurial minds to generate ideas and design projects that can translate into economically viable ventures. He further reminded that there are various funding streams to drive investments; however, it is important to scale initiatives to access the benefits. Mr. Lander underscored that businesses should join forces and work together to make this a reality.
DAIC welcomes further engagement on the Green Climate Fund to ensure maximum opportunities are available for the private sector through translation of efforts into economically viable projects.
