DASPA Iterates Entry Protocols Into Dominica; CCM Reacts

The Dominica Air and Sea Port Authority (DASPA) has reiterated entry protocols that people must follow to enter into Dominica. DASPA CEO Benoit Bardouille said the entry protocols are crucial in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic and resurgence of cases in the country.

The DASPA identified several countries as low-risk, medium-risk, and high-risk based on the rate of COVID-19 incidents in the countries. Dominica nationals from any of these countries must upload their PCR results to the government 24-72 hours before their arrival in Dominica. They must also complete a questionnaire which will enable health officials in the country to determine their health status and risk factors before they will be allowed back to the country, Bardouille said.

However, the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) has turned around to accuse the government of complicity in returning people into the country through the “back door”. CCM Chairman John Blanchard called the government an accomplice in the return of undocumented nationals and visitors to the country. He specifically accused the government of bringing people into the country via the back door days before the last general elections of 2019.

Blanchard alleged that PM Roosevelt Skerrit and former Roseau South DLP candidate Chekira Lockhart Hypolite allowed people to enter Dominica through the back door in order to participate in the last elections. The UWP opposition also made the same accusations, but the Skerrit-led administration has not only debunked the allegations, they have also produced statistical evidences from various agencies to prove that the allegations are politically-motivated.
