Carlisa George, the daughter of Chief Magistrate Candia Carrette-George, got 14 grades ones at the 2022 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination. Carlisa, whose father is Pastor Ehdi George, finished from Portsmouth Secondary School, and was the valedictorian and snagged the Student of the Year award in July.
Education Minister Octavia Alfred congratulated Carlisa and other students who came tops at the recently concluded regional examination. She tasked them to continue learning and to strive to be the best they can in all endeavours.
“Learning is dynamic; learning is life-long,” Alfred said. “Let us move on. There is always something new to learn” she said. “I want to also encourage us that whatever we do, let’s be people of excellence; let’s give our best even when we are not supervised.”
Local CXC Registrar, Magalie Celestine, disclosed that Dominica scored above the regional average of 25 in 32 subjects. She revealed that a total of 717 students – 310 boys, 407 girls, and 181 private candidates – sat for the CSEC examination. She added that in Dominica, 37 students from 10 secondary schools and one private school scored 6 or more grade ones in the examination.
