Another bilateral relationship has been forged between the peoples of Dominica and China with the establishment of the Dominica-China Friendship Association (DCFA). Launched at the State House Conference Room at the weekend, the DCFA is to promote economic friendship and cultural relations between Dominica and China.
The DCFA is headed by Ambassador Steve Ferrol who serves as its first president; first vice president is Cecil Joseph and second vice president is Queen Thomas; Secretary and Treasurer of the association are Jackie Xavier and Patricia Mills respectively; Daryl Titre is the PRO and Lisa Lavenier is the assistant secretary/treasurer; while other executive members are Jahisaiah Benoit, Winell Francis, Imanu Esprit, and Kenny Green.
Ferrol stated that executives and members of the new association are people, who have lived, studied, visited, or have interest in China as a nation and its people-to-people relationships with Dominica. In attendance at the event was the ambassador of China to Dominica, His Excellency Lin Xianjiang, who lauded the establishment of DCFA and said it will deepen bilateral relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Commonwealth of Dominica.
Xianjiang said his country will assist DCFA to achieve its aims and objectives – and he pointed to China’s assistance with building the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) as testament of his country’s commitment to the overall development of Dominica and its peoples. Meanwhile, the Chinese government has completed two in-patient buildings at the DCFH and handed them over to the management of the hospital to run.
The CEO of DCFH, Dr. Dexter James, expressed joy with the addition of the buildings to the hospital and declared that 100 new beds will be added to the hospital to accommodate more patients. James said the new buildings will be commissioned soon; and Xianjiang said the entire hospital facility will be handed over to the government of Dominica very soon – although the state-of-the-art hospital is already functional.
