PM Roosevelt Skerrit has lauded the establishment of the Dominica China Friendship Association (DCFA). He said the newly-formed group will promote bilateral relations between the peoples of Dominica and China. He added that he took the best step when he became the government leader in 2004 to establish bilateral relations with the People’s Republic of China.
“When I took the bold decision to establish formal ties with China in 2004, I did so with the interest and well-being of the Dominican people as my foremost concern…,” Skerrit said. “Years later, we have had ample evidence that this was a sound decision which has enhanced the lives of the Dominican people and contributed to our country’s enhancement in several development sectors.”
The DLP administrator lauded his government’s collaboration with China 18 years ago for the many strategic development that have been witnessed in Dominica. He added that the DCFA will deepen the friendship Dominica already enjoys with China, and that the establishment of the new association couldn’t have come at a better time.
The ambassador of China to Dominica, Lin Xianjian, in his reaction expressed happiness with the establishment of DCFA, saying the cordial relationship between his country and Dominica has improved over the past 18 years. He said the two countries are separated by the Atlantic Ocean and different cultures, traditions, and lifestyles, but that has not stopped both countries from being helpful to each other.
The president of DCFA, Ambassador Steve Ferrol, stated that the main objective of the association is to strengthen and promote bilateral cooperation and collaboration in interests that are consistent with the principles that guide government-to-government relations. He said the two-sided relationship will be based on the knowledge and respect for the sovereignty of the two countries. He revealed that DFCA members are people who have lived, studied, visited, and interested in China-Dominica relations.
