DCHS Gets Computer Lab and Auditorium at a Cost of $1.2 Million under BNTF-9
The Dominica Community High School (DCHS) is set to benefit from the 9th Basic Needs Trust Fund Programme (BNTF-9) which will see the construction of an auditorium and setting up of a computer lab at the school at the cost of $1.2 million. The award of the school project was executed in October 2020 and work has commenced at the school since then.
Minister of Sports and Community Development, Roselyn Paul, visited the site of the project and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing work. She said the project will further the education of children and build capacity as envisioned under the current BNTF programme.
Minister of Telecommunications and Broadcasting, Oscar George, hailed the construction of the computer lab as consistent with the vision of the DLP administration to develop ICT across Dominican schools.
“This is very consistent with what the Government is trying to achieve with building a digital economy, exposing our youth to the difference that ICT can make and how they can improve their lives with the use of ICT,” Honourable George said.
The principal of DCHS, Mrs. Celia Nicholas, expressed gratitude to the government for the construction of the auditorium and computer lab. She said the computer facility will be beneficial to students and parents who wish to further their computer knowledge while the new auditorium would be useful for fundraising and other public activities.
The implementation of BNTF-9 was made possible by a government grant from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB). The BNTF-9 comprises of seven projects which include the development of DCHS and other schools, with six of the seven projects already awarded to relevant agencies.
