DCOA Dedicates Month of September to Celebrate Senior Citizens
The Dominica Council on Ageing (DCOA) has dedicated the month of September to celebrate senior citizens and has outlined event programmes for the entire month. President of DCOA, Ophelia Maria, said the organization’s executives have tagged the month’s celebrations to be “Pioneers of Resilience – The Journey to Age Equality”.
Marie outlined some of the significant programmes her organization listed for the entire month of September for elderly Dominicans as follows:
- September 2nd: Address by the President of Dominica, His Excellency Charles A. Savarin
- September 3rd: Press conference at Stadium conference Room
- September 4th: Radio talk show at DBS
- September 8th: Grandparents Day in communities
- September 15th: Service at Pointe Michel Church
- September 19th: Feast of La Salette at Pointe Michel
- September 22nd: DCOA national senior games at Windsor Park Sports Stadium
- September 24th: Love our Seniors youth workshop at UWI campus
- September 28th: Seniors island tour
- October 1st: Address by Hon. Dr. Kenneth Darroux – Minister for Health and Social Services
There will also be other activities by groups and affiliate members of DCOA. The Love our Seniors youth workshop to hold at UWI open campus in Dominica will train secondary school students on the need to love and respect elders everywhere, as well as how to effectively do so.
Dominica is not the only country celebrating her senior citizens; other countries around the world are also doing the same for the month of September.
