Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) will partner with the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) to host a “Disaster Risk Management in the Tourism Sector” workshop commencing on October 26, 2020.
The workshop will be facilitated by Mr. Evan Green, an experienced consultant with expertise in multi-hazard risk management. The recently updated Multi-Hazard Risk Management Guide for the Caribbean Tourism Sector will be used to conduct the training.
The Guide provides frameworks, guidelines, tools, and strategies to prepare for, respond to and recover from various types of hazards, including climate hazards such as hurricanes and storms, health-related hazards including pandemics, and other manmade or natural hazardous events such as fires, earthquakes, volcanoes and others.
Ten (10) representatives from the public sector and private sector whose role includes support for Tourism Disaster Risk Management will participate in the training.
Participants will be introduced to the contents of the revised manual to foster awareness and use.
On the first two days, participants will receive comprehensive training in Hazard Management and the third day is a Training of Trainers workshop for a smaller group of participants identified as trainers to be equipped to replicate and deliver the training.
CTO is highly cognizant of the changing tourism needs of the region, and through this initiative, they are working to better serve member countries by imparting knowledge, skills, and tools to aid in successful tourism management to mitigate and manage the threat posed by climate change.
