DEF said making Sunday a workday is neither slavery nor victimization

President of the Dominica Employers Federation (DEF), Achille Joseph, said making Sunday a workday is neither slavery nor victimization. He made this assertion in response to statements credited to Kertiste Augustus, secretary-treasurer of the Waterfront and Allied Workers Union (WAWU).

Joseph said there is bill waiting to be passed by the parliament to make Sunday a workday, and there is nowhere slavery or victimization is mentioned in the document. He stated the proposal is intented to restructure the work policy and operations as well as in the business community of Dominica.

He countered allegations that the proposal would favour employers more than employees, adding that workers are free to choose to work or not to work on Sunday. He also stated that employers could choose to pay overtime to workers who come on Sunday.
