Defeated Anette Thomas-Sanford Vows to Work with Incoming Kalinago Chief

Nurse Annette Thomas-Sanford just lost her bid to become the new Kalinago Chief to 22-year-old rival Lorenzo Sanford. Annette lost the election to Lorenzo by only three votes, but has vowed to join hands with him to take the Kalinago Territory to enviable heights. She also congratulated Lorenzo for winning the election to emerge chief, saying she will assist him in whatever capacity to better the territory.

“I want to congratulate the incoming Chief. I think we all did a great job and I am prepared to work with him in whatever capacity to develop the Kalinago Territory,” Thomas-Sanford said.

She said she learned a lot during the campaign and election periods and used the opportunity to thank her family, supporters, campaign team, and everyone that lent a hand of support during the period. She revealed she was able to connect with several grassroots people in Kalinago during this period. She advised all contenders to the position to accept fate, saying everyone tried his best.

With a total 406 votes, Thomas-Sanford said could have beaten Lorenzo who had 409 at the election if not for three votes. According to her, nine of her ballots were rejected while Lorenzo had three of his rejected. To this end, if none of them had had their ballots canceled, Thomas-Sanford said she could have emerged winner with 415 votes leaving Lorenzo in the second position with 412 votes.

“I think the intention of the people was to have me as Kalinago Chief,” she said. “If the ballots were not rejected I would have won.” Thomas-Sanford described her campaign efforts as clean, saying it inspired lots of people to believe in the Kalinago dream.
