DFA Launches Sponsorship for Under 15 Boys League

The Dominica Football Association (DFA) in partnership with the Central Cooperative Credit Union Ltd (CCCUL) and the Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC) has launched the Under 15 Boys League in the country. The event was launched at the Patrick John Football House on Thursday, September 29.

DFA’s technical director, Jerome Bardouille, noted that football is essential for the physical and mental development of players, and that youths should engage more in the sport. He said developing a new crop of young players that will replace the older players of the national teams is critical to having a continuous batch of skillful players who will make the country proud.

Training young players is essential for the future of our national teams and so association and clubs have a huge responsibility to develop football in the country.

According to Bardouille, the league would begin over the past weekend, and young players would be able to play against themselves so that the best talents could be identified. He blamed the COVID-19 pandemic for the delay in kicking off the leagues, and also identified lack of desire and commitment among partners and leagues as well as technical departments as creating the shortcomings potential leagues are experiencing.

Football can be described as the school of life through which valuable skills can be taught such as teamwork, dedication, and perseverance. There are no shortcuts to success, as players’ minds need to be made up to work hard; and I hope that this league will be taken seriously and that coaches will put a plan together for the development of the game.
