DFP Member, Michael Astaphan, Discredits the Leadership of Skerrit

Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) member, Michael Astaphan, said PM Skerrit has not achieved anything in the last 15 years. The astute businessman lamented that the country has not seen much growth under the DLP administration led by Roosevelt Skerrit.

Astaphan went on to itemise areas where he thinks the government has failed the people and the entire country. He stated that not minding the large size of the government’s cabinet, that the DLP had not performed up to expectation in meeting the needs of the people.

Following the swearing-in of Skerrit as the prime minister for another term in office and the inauguration of a new cabinet at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, several prime ministers from other Caribbean countries gathered in Dominica to congratulate Skerrit for his election victory.

There were national leaders from Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, and St. Vincent among others. DFP executive Astaphan however said it is not right for the various leaders to congratulate Skerrit at the expense of the UWP. He said it is unfair for the Caribbean leaders to lambaste the UWP in public instead of remaining neutral to what is going on in Dominica.

PM Skerrit has reiterated his willingness to work with the opposition in the new government and even appointed eminent Caribbean jurist and retired Chief Justice of the Caribbean Court of Justice, Sir Charles Michael Dennis Byron, to be the sole commissioner for electoral reform in the country. He will lead a national commission for electoral reform and work from a dedicated secretariat.
