DGS Demolishes Old Building, Constructs New One

The Dominica Grammar School (DGS) has demolished the old building which housed a major portion of the school. The demolished portion had been in use for several decades and had become quite unfit for students in the school.

The school authorities constructed a new building close to the demolished one, with another wing set to be added again soon. The new building additions will be a boost to academic learning in the school and will be much safer for use than the old ones.

The DGS was established in 1893 and is one of the oldest secondary schools in Dominica. It is also one of the most famous and respected government secondary school in the country, and has produced many notable figures who are either within or outside the Nature Island. Some of these people are in government and others are in private businesses in Dominica and in the diaspora.

The Skerrit administration places a high premium on education and it is hoped that other schools will witness renovations in 2020 and beyond. The schools will also be better equipped with science laboratories and other important resources for learning so that students can become the best in the respective fields when they leave secondary school for universities.
