Stakeholders in the tourism and agriculture sectors held consultations on improving output for both industries. The Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association (DHTA) with Agro Tourism conferred with players in both sectors to increase productivity for all concerned. Both DHTA and Agro Tourism executives met with creators of GURU’s Agriculture Management Platform and Farm Operating system on helping out industry stakeholders.
Established to increase agricultural productivity in all respects, GURU aims to make farm activities easier and better while maintaining environmental compliance. With GURU, farmers can access agricultural solutions aimed at increasing crop yeild and promoting economic rewards.
DHTA’s executive vice-president Kevin A. Francis said the app automatically connects agric sellers and buyers and as well streamlines all aspects of the farming business. He said his agency had been working on GURU for a couple of years before unveiling it recently. He commended the collaboration with Jade Hutchinson and the entire GURU management for working to ensure food security and economic growth years after the Hurricane Maria incident.
DHTA’s president Marvlyn Alexander-James commended all stakeholders for the success of the initiative. She said it is necessary that demand and supply to be equal as well as have structures for product quality and support before the synergy between the tourism and agriculture sectors can bear fruit.
Ms. Alexander-James expressed hopes that the proposed marriage between agriculture and tourism will be perfect and final. She looks forward to a lasting platform where hotels and restaurants will synergize with farmers to access organic produce that will thrill customers as well as tourists to Dominica.
This partnership is one key step in creating a more food secure Dominica by forming a live market space that connects producers to consumers and helping them to reach optimal levels of production that meet the demand.
