DHTA’s Hikefest 2021 Dubbed a Resounding Success

In observance of Tourism Awareness month, the Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association launched its 12th edition of Hike Fest under the theme; “Vini Ansanm”. The association anticipated that there would be challenges due to the restrictions put in place to protect against Covid19, but recorded a resounding success.

“Over the course of the month we saw about 100 hikers take part in Hikefest 2021 and share in the fun. We also saw the third instalment of the night hike series that was extremely well received.” remarked Executive Vice President of the Association.

Hikers of various ages trekked the rewarding trail to the majestic Victoria Falls, discovered new sites at the Cabrits Historical Night Hike, facilitated by Mr. Cyrille John of the Forestry, Wild Life and Parks Division and took in spectacular view on the Island’s tallest summit.

Bringing the curtain down on the Hikefest activities, hikers participated in the, first of its kind, Morne Diablotin Challenge on May 29, 2021. Mr. Francis explained that “As part of the challenge, hikers were timed to the first summit; an advanced hike that takes on average 2-3 hours, one way, to compete. The challenge was by no means a race, but rather a yardstick to measure your progress and growth.”  The hiker with the shortest time was, Mr. Talmon Lucien with an impressive time of 52 minutes, with Simon Joseph and Darison Joseph following close behind with times of 1 hour and 2 minutes and 1 hour and 4 minutes, respectively.

The Association acknowledges the contribution of all its members, corporate partner and Various Stakeholders who came together to make this event a success. “Hikefest would not have been possible without the contribution and support of various stakeholders and members. The association would like to thank Discover Dominica Authority, Digicel, Jolly’s Pharmacy, National Bank of Dominica, HHV Whitchurch & Co. Ltd, Fine Foods Inc., and Dominica Electricity Services. Also, to Archipelago Trading and Sustainable Earth for their support.
