DHTA Sets Up Donation to Help Bahamas through Bidding on Hotel Stays

DHTA sets up donation to help Bahamas through bidding on hotel stays via online auction. The Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association (DHTA) is joining with the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) and the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) to help the people and government of the Bahamas following the damages caused by the recent Hurricane Dorian.

The associations are aware that various governments within and outside the Caribbean community have given generous donations to help rebuild the Bahamas, but they are giving individuals the opportunity to be part of the donations. They set up an online charity auction where people can bid on donated hotel stays. This means that when hotels donate hotel rooms to help victims of the hurricane, members of the public can bid on the donated stay to raise money for the island.

“We are encouraging all hotels to support by donating hotel stays through the DHTA which will form part of the online auction,” DHTA said in a statement.

The organization expressed pains at the loss of lives and property recorded in Abacos and the Grand Bahamas Island during Dorian, saying everyone should rise up to help the devasted island recover and emerge stronger.

“In the wake of this unprecedented storm, we have seen, heard and felt the outcry of the Bahamian people for help in this tragic time and the angst of an entire Caribbean concerned for the welfare of the people of these islands,” they wrote.

DHTA said this is not the first time an island in the Caribbean will experience devastating storms. But the resilience of the people has brought them out stronger during the difficult times with support from all and sundry. They mentioned that people and organizations have demonstrated times without number that everyone is his brother’s keeper, and this fact must be put to play again to help the Bahamian people.

The CTO also set up a Go Fund Me hurricane relief fund campaign so that people from around the world can contribute to the restoration of the Bahamas. The Red Cross Society also publicized a bank account where people could make donations; and several other initiatives have been set up to assist the people and government of Bahamas through this trying period in their national history.
