Dice was crowned the 2019 Calypso Monarch of Dominica

Just a few hours ago, Dennison Joseph – Dice was crowned the 2019 Calypso Monarch of Dominica, for the ninth time.

In one of the most exciting calypso finals to be staged on the island, Dice competed against 11 of Dominica’s most talented Calypsonians and emerged victoriously for the 9th time in his career. A feat that hasn’t been matched in the Caribbean where this wonderful art form is practiced .

The contest was a very close one, had I been judging this competition I would not have had a problem crowning either of the three runner-up calypsonians as the winner. However, Dice a veteran to the stage, delivered better diction, superb stage presence, skilful stagecraft, and just a general better overall performance. At the end of the evening, the other contenders had a gladiatorial spectacle for the remaining positions.

Sadly, last year’s monarch Daryl Bobb was not convincing enough to retain his title crown, and was the competition’s 1st Runner Up (second place).
2nd runner up Tasha P (third place) and the 3rd runner-up was Webb (fourth place).

  1. What a Night people – You had to be there to feel the electric vibes man. WE have calypsonians and we have gifted artist. Dice is a league by himself. Watching it on youtube is not like actually being there and seeing him on stage doing what he does best. The melody, control of the stage and crowd, it was just all put together perfectly. I mean from since quarter finals I knew he was going to win.

    1. Ohh please – You just like dem other Labourites. Giving crown to where it down belong. You know he was going to win? are you MAD. Bobb could easily win and Tasha P too. Dem judges and their fake system.

      1. What is Mr. Stress Nuh. This calypso – not politics. You just have to start. Nothing cannot be without DLP, and government? its a competition. the PM not judging it you know. Infact i think Dice might be UWP.. how is that?

      2. My friend Calypso is Politics – incase you had forgotten or was IGNORANT of the fact. Its politics all the way – and each party have their artist blowing the trumpet.

      3. You want Skerrit to be the judge in Calypso too? All you is real ignorant people. Cannot give the man a rest. They should ban people like you and your comments from a clean praise of the a subject like that.

  2. Congratulations Mr. Joseph, Really liked the performance. Gets better every year. I don’t think the other competitors had anything that could compare. Keep it up!

  3. Dice has done it again. I mean Dice is on Fire – he has broken every record possible. I think there should be a regional King competition – Dice is that good that he pull of a win in the region. I just don’t see anyone in the regional stange that can complete beat him. 9 times is not accidental – it means he has real skill. YES king Dice. keep on making us proud.

    1. No regional Competition – Dice is good, but regional is pushing it too far. The Trinidad artist would slaughter the guy. Then he would never compete again. That is simply will not work for him and us. Let him be king here.

    2. Yes – We should have a regional Calypso king – just like they have Caribbean Queen and so on. A Regional King would be the real deal to see who is the best in the islands. But they would have to judge it somewhere neutral. Infact i surprise they haven’t done that yet.

  4. Dice my brother – did not doubt you for 1 second. I know you was going to win. What is yours is yours, no man can take. Dice will always be the best calypsonian to ever hit Dominica.
