Digicel donated 150 batteries to keep Amateur Radio Club on air during disasters. Digicel Dominica said the batteries will keep Amateur Radio Club Inc. longer on air to disseminate safety information in the event of a natural disaster. The batteries were presented by Digicel’s Network Engineering Manager Glenford St. Jean to Amateur Radio Club’s President Roger Blanchard.
St. Jean said Digicel is happy to do anything to keep people safe in this hurricane season, adding the batteries will enable Amateur Radio to keep communications open if anything happens.
“We are providing 150 batteries,” St. Jean stated. “We know that it will be used as it should be to assist the nation through any disaster that may arise keeping in mind that we are in the hurricane season. These batteries would assist with communications – to increase the period of time that their systems remain online – to ensure communication is prolonged.”
Blanchard thanked the telecoms operator for the batteries, saying it will prove invaluable to Amateur Radio’s on-air services during a disaster. He promised that the batteries will be kept for good use, and also urged other companies in Dominica to emulate the humanitarian character of Digicel to help public-oriented organizations in the light of potential natural disasters.
