DLP Candidate for Soufriere Says Decisive Votes Can Transform Country for 40 Years
DLP candidate for Soufriere constituency, Denise Charles, said decisive votes can transform country for 40 years. She revealed that who the citizens vote for in the coming elections will determine how Dominica will fare in terms of development in the next 40 years. She urged the people to vote wisely and to consider those in the DLP since they have the interests of the people at heart.
Ms. Charles disclosed that the only way for Dominicans to enjoy global investments and economic opportunities is to vote in all DLP candidates. She tasked people not to gamble away their future or waste their votes by voting for other parties, stating that the country has come a long way in the last 41 years of independence.
Speaking at the Diaspora Forum to attendees, Charles said the Soufriere constituency will undergo immense transformations. She said the country is fast increasing its development and tourism rankings in the Caribbean, and the same growth must be experienced at the local level in Soufriere if the people can vote her in.
It took Dominica forty years after independence in 1979 to open the first 5-star resort and witness the construction of three major international brands – it took Roosevelt Skerrit led administration under five years to make that dream a reality.

The DLP hopeful further noted that PM Skerrit constructed an international cricket stadium that it earlier took the country 28 years to envision and articulate. Charles also said the quality of life for individuals and families has increased due to the visionary leadership of the Skerrit-led administration. She said the prime minister’s strategic alliances have paid off for the people and Dominica is much better than it was 20 years ago.
She counted off some of the recent achievements of the DLP administration and those in the pipeline awaiting execution.
“We (government) have built over 34 homes for residents and have 150 more to construct as there are still families who require new homes and assistance for home repairs,” she said.
Charles announced that the government has perfected plans to construct two jetties by next year, commence yachting again, and create a recreational experience for tourists from Pointe Michel to Scotts Head among other places of interest in Soufriere.
