DLP to Unveil Gregory “Karessah” Riviere as Candidate for Marigot on Sunday

The Dominica Labour Party (DLP) said they are presenting Gregory “Karessah” Riviere as the candidate for Marigot constituency on Sunday. The event is to begin at 2 p.m. at the Marigot Fisheries Complex, according to DLP General Secretary and Grand Bay constituency Edward Registe.

The launch on Sunday is a much-anticipated one and that of Mr. Gregory Riviere known as ‘Karessah’ and what we’re seeing in Marigot is really encouraging to the Dominica Labour party and we are looking forward to a very grand event.

Edward Registe: DLP General Secretary and Grand Bay constituency

He revealed that the DLP had been looking forward to winning Marigot for a long time, and they are quite hopeful that the people will vote for Riviere when the next general elections come. He said the party hopes to directly address the people on the need to vote for Riviere since he has their personal interests and that of the party at heart.

“While we have had interest in the Marigot seat before, this time around we believe that we have maybe one of our better chances to create history in the Marigot seat,” the DLP official declared.

Ian Douglas, the DLP candidate for Portsmouth, also encouraged the people of Marigot to see Riviere as one of their own and accept him as their representative. He said the candidate is an excellent candidate who has been working with youths for the good of the constituency and the country at large.

“We think that we have an excellent candidate,” Douglas said. “He is a household name; everybody knows about Karessah. Not only because of his Calypso fame but also his work among the youths of the country and all of the Marigot people.”

Douglas said Riviere has been working for the good of the Marigot community long before Hurricane Maria and he performed excellently during and after the storm. He added that Riviere “came to us and we didn’t have to go and look for him. He stepped up to the plate and decided that he wanted to serve his people, and that’s a unique attribute of the Dominica Labour Party.”

Registe and Douglas among other DLP stalwarts said infrastructural developments such as the new Marigot Hospital and the International Airport in Wesley among others will be addressed during Riviere’s launch on Sunday.
