Do Not Vote or Participate in This Snap Election – Linton Tells Dominicans

Former UWP political leader, Lennox Linton, has urged Dominicans to step back from participating in the scheduled December 6 snap elections. According to the current opposition leader in parliament, the coming election is “Skerrit election” and not “Dominica election” and so the prime minister and his cronies should be left to exploit the election.

Linton said that without fulfilling the years-long demand for a clean voters list and national ID cards, the UWP and other opposition parties will not take part in any general elections in Dominica. The opposition leader said that a clean voters’ register of people who can legally vote, and national ID cards for all legitimate voters, are part of the electoral reforms that the entire Dominican electorates are asking for to be assured of free and fair electoral processes.

He emphasized that without these requirements, any general elections called for in the country would be fraudulent and tainted with corruption.

My advice to the people of Dominica is to stand down from this election. Leave it alone. Let Mr. Skerrit have his elections by himself and the people who have chosen to join him. That is my advice. I’m suggesting that this election of the 6th of December is Mr. Skerrit’s election and he should be left to participate in it by himself.

Hon. Lennox Linton, Former UWP Political Leader

He further noted that the UWP will not take part in this coming election since it is constitutionally due in the next two years. He tasked all Dominicans to shun the polls and let Skerrit and his folks have a field day to their own shame. He said this is about Skerrit hijacking the rights of Dominicans in order to perpetuate himself in office; and that all individuals and institutions across the country should boycott the elections to set precedence.

Linton said he has also written to President Charles Savarin to make his reservations about the December 6 snap elections known. He also called on all Dominicans to join the UWP at an all-important meeting scheduled to hold on Thursday, November 17, in Roseau to discuss the election issue. He urged on all employers to allow their workers a day off on that day to attend the meeting.
