In a reaffirmation of their enduring friendship, Dominica and the People’s Republic of China celebrated the 74th anniversary of the founding of the PRC in a special reception. The Chinese Ambassador to Dominica, His Excellency Lin Xinjiang, reiterated China’s steadfast commitment to supporting Dominica through all circumstances, emphasizing that the two nations are currently enjoying a historic peak in their relationship.

Ambassador Lin highlighted several key aspects of the strong partnership between the two countries. Notably, the Chinese Agriculture team has been stationed in Dominica for over 18 years, working to introduce Chinese seedlings and affordable fruits and vegetables to local communities. Chinese doctors have provided medical care and training to local physicians, and the Friendship Hospital has been enhanced through the establishment of the Cardiovascular Imaging Center and the Telemedicine Center.

China has also contributed to enhancing the quality of life for Dominicans, including donations of greenhouses, sports equipment, disaster relief supplies, and a children’s playground. Various organizations, such as the Friendship Association and the Confucius Classroom, have facilitated cultural exchanges and cooperation programs.

Furthermore, Ambassador Lin announced the introduction of the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship, which will be awarded to 22 outstanding students at the Dominica State College (DSC) and continue annually. This initiative reflects China’s commitment to supporting Dominica’s education sector.

Ambassador Lin used the occasion to highlight China’s modernization journey, emphasizing its commitment to peaceful development, inclusiveness, and providing inspiration to the world, especially developing nations. He noted that despite challenges faced globally, China’s economy has remained robust, with GDP growth, World Bank, OECD, and IMF forecasts all projecting positive outcomes.

He also discussed the Belt and Road Initiative’s (BRI) significant impact over the past decade, generating substantial investments, cooperation projects, job creation, and poverty reduction in countries along its routes.

Dr. Irvin McIntyre, speaking on behalf of Dominica’s Prime Minister, commended China’s remarkable progress, highlighting its cultural and economic strength, technological innovation, and societal cohesion. He expressed gratitude for China’s ongoing support in infrastructure projects, education, health, and disaster relief efforts.

Dr. McIntyre underlined Dominica’s commitment to being a loyal friend to China and its recognition of the one-China policy. He looked forward to further collaboration in sustainable development, technology, education, and cultural exchanges.

The reception symbolized the strong bond between Dominica and China, rooted in mutual respect and trust. As both nations confront global challenges and opportunities, they expressed aspirations for an even stronger partnership focused on shared prosperity and sustainability.
