In a significant stride towards international collaboration, Dominica and Vietnam have cemented their diplomatic relationship through a landmark agreement. This accord offers visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic and official passports from both nations, marking a substantial development in their bilateral relations.
The agreement’s signing was a noteworthy event that occurred as Dominica participated in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Prior to the signing ceremony, Dominica’s Minister for Planning, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, Sustainable Development, and Renewable Energy, Vince Henderson, engaged in a working session with Vietnamese Foreign Minister, Bui Thanh Son.
The discussions revolved around strategies to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
During these talks, both parties acknowledged the importance of advancing negotiations on a double taxation avoidance agreement. Moreover, they explored the potential for collaboration in diverse fields, including science, technology, education, and agriculture. These efforts are seen as significant contributions to bolstering bilateral ties between Dominica and Vietnam.
Minister Henderson underscored the paramount significance of Dominica’s relationship with Vietnam. He expressed optimism about its vigorous growth, citing the visa exemption agreement as a pivotal milestone in their mutual journey.
The commitment to fostering collaboration extended beyond bilateral relations, with both nations pledging to strengthen ties between Vietnam and CARICOM countries, as well as between Dominica and the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
This momentous agreement reflects Dominica’s proactive approach to expanding its diplomatic reach on the global stage. Having established diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 2013, Dominica continues to demonstrate its dedication to nurturing international partnerships and increasing its global presence.
