Dominica Comes Third in WinLott School Games; Two Dominica Cyclists in Guyana

Dominica emerged in the third position in the just concluded 2019 WinLott CBN Windward Island School Games. Grenada came second position and St. Lucia won the first position. St. Lucia won the games with a total of 35 points, Grenada came second with 31 points and Dominica came third with 27 points.

As it happened, St. Lucia came first in volleyball and netball, second in field events and female basketball, and third in football. Grenada won athletics as well as boys basketball. St. Lucia came first in netball while Dominica won second in the same game. In the girls’ basketball game, Dominica led with three wins and St. Lucia, Grenada and St. Vincent won second, third and fourth respectively.

St. Lucia came first in girls volleyball, Dominica came second and Grenada third while St. Vincent came fourth. For boys volleyball, St. Lucia came first, Dominica second, Grenada third and St. Vincent fourth. In football, Grenada came first, St. Vincent second, St. Lucia third and Dominica fourth.

Several deserving athletes and coaches were presented with awards after the games. Former WNBA player in the United States, Pietra Gay, got an MVP award for coaching and getting the Dominica girls basketball team qualified for the games.

Next year’s WinLott CBN Windward Island School Games will hold in Grenada.

In a related development, Dominica is fielding two professional cyclists to fly the country’s flag in the ongoing Caribbean Junior Championship in Guyana. The two representatives are Kevon Boyd and Kohath Baron. The Dominican Cycling Association appreciated the Dominica Olympic Committee for supporting the two cyclists to participate in the games which runs from August 8-11.

“The Dominican Cycling Association is pleased to announce that we will have two representatives from Dominica – Kevon Boyd and Kohath Baron,” President of the DCA, Senator Ronald Charles said. “We’re really happy for the young cyclists and we wish them well.”

Levi Baron, a former cyclist, coached and will be managing the two cyclists in Guyana. This is the first time ever that professional cyclists from Dominica will be participating in cycling competitions outside the shores of the country.
