Dominica Donates $250,000 to Host Cricket Match against India from July 12-16

Dominica is hosting a cricket test match against India from July 12-14. Trinidad will be hosting the second test match at the Queen’s Park Oval from July 20-24. The two test matches are part of the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship which will run from July to August.

PM Roosevelt Skerrit said the government donated $250,000 to be able to host a test match at Windsor Park Stadium. Skerrit said the government made the financial contribution to host the cricket game in order to boost economic activities across Dominica.

He said thousands of people will pour into the country to watch the games or participate in one way or the other. He said the influx of sports lovers will generate brisk business for hoteliers and traders as well as taxi operators among others.

The hotels are going to be filled. The restaurants are going to make money, the taxi operators are going to be making money, the bus drivers are going to make money to carry people…so it’s all in an effort to encourage economic activity in the country.

Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica

The CEO of Cricket West Indies (CWI), Johnny Graves, said he was delighted to confirm schedule and venues for the cricket matches. He said the matches slated for West Indies against India are highly anticipated and that the test match to be hosted by Trinidad will be the 100th to be hosted by the twin island nation.

Graves went on to reveal that after the two test matches, three CG One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and five T20 Internationals (T20Is) will follow. He said the ODI series will kickoff at Kensington Oval in Barbados on July 27-29 and it will round off on August 1 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.

The T20Is will start at the same academy after the completion of the ODIs on August 3. The T20Is series will proceed at the national stadium in Guyana from August 6-8 and conclude from August 12-13 at the Broward County Cricket Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida.
