Dominica is in Gear Towards The Resumption of Cruise Calls to its Shores
Destination Dominica is in gear towards the resumption of cruise calls to its shores. Cruise ships may start their reentry to the island cruise port, as early as June 2021. Efforts towards the destination preparedness to include enforcement of the islands robust health and safety protocols, consultation with local tourism service providers, networking with the cruise lines and training of the cruise sector are ongoing. Over 350 service providers have undergone health and safe protocols training over the past months. Sites upgrades and necessary health and safety measures are being implemented at major cruise sites.
March 2020 marked the last cruise call before the island was forced into cruise shutdown due to the devasting impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the cruise industry. Over 900 of the islands cruise service providers were severely impacted economically. Globally it is consensus that the quickest way to get the Tourism industry going again safely is to achieve herd immunity i.e., 75% of the Destination population vaccinated. This is a key factor in the restoration of the island’s tourism business. Cruise lines have ensured safety as their number one priority by mandating that all cruise passengers and crew are fully vaccinated. Dominica in turn must assure safety to the cruise passengers by ensuring that all its service providers are fully vaccinated so as to allow interaction with cruise visitors. This step must be taken towards restoring the livelihood of those impacted.
Discover Dominica Authority therefore urges all service providers to play their part by getting vaccinated today!
