In keeping with its vision ‘To be the major driver of the economic sector in Dominica and to make Dominica products the desired choice of every household’, the Dominica Manufacturers Association (DMA) has embarked on an Export Initiative. This venture will seek to establish relationships with regional and international distributors, market Dominican products worldwide and coordinate the export of locally manufactured products which will contribute significantly to Dominica’s GDP.
DMA has established a shipping distribution arrangement with a distributor in Martinique and the US Virgin Islands. Over the last three months, a 20’ container with locally manufactured products has been shipped monthly to Martinique and US Virgin Islands. The distributors intend to supply Martinique, Guadeloupe, French Guyana, Canada, France, the US Virgin Islands and the mainland US with these products.
At least five manufacturers have been able to take advantage of this export opportunity so far. A variety of products are being exported through this initiative to include Wine, Root Crop Flour, Herbal Teas, Seamoss Drink, Soaps, Pharmeceuticals, Lip Balm and Deodorants. Distributors are so far impressed with the quality and authenticity of the Dominican products they have received and are looking to expand their product range.
Dominican manufacturers who are export-ready or interested in tapping into these markets, are encouraged to contact the Association for further information. The DMA is also using this as an opportunity to provide the necessary support in helping manufacturers export. The Association is working through partners such as the Ministry of Trade, DEXIA and the Dominica Bureau of Standards to ensure that local products are of the highest quality and that they meet entry requirements for export markets.
