Dominica No Longer In Danger of Storm, But People Warned to Exercise Caution
Dominica is no longer in dire danger of tropical storms at the moment, but people have been warned to exercise caution following the heavy downfall that occurred on Wednesday night. National Security Minister, Rayburn Blackmoore, said the island is now in the clear following the Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine that was headed to the country some few days ago, but which has now changed directions.
However, the island witnessed a deluge of rain, thunder, and lightening, with fears that this might cause severe flooding and landslides in various parts of the country. The minister warned people residing in low areas and near ravines or rivers to take recommended actions for the protection of lives and property.
“While we have been spared and want to thank God, I want to urge citizens to be very cautious because of the amount of rain that we have had we may experience some flooding, falling rocks and or landslides,” he said.
Blackmoore disclosed that people can now resume their normal daily activities but must remain vigilant and glued to their radio sets so that they can catch the local news bulletin regarding weather conditions in their area. He warned that there is still probability that the weather can change for the worse anytime, and that people must head out to emergency shelters which shall be activated for sheltering people.
