Dominica Police Continue Crackdown on Drug Trafficking with Multiple Seizure
The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) Acting Police Chief Davidson Valerie has confirmed the police force’s dedication to eradicating drug trafficking in Dominica. His statement follows several significant drug busts conducted by the police in recent months.
Valerie highlighted the success of the police force over the past six weeks in intercepting four separate shipments of cocaine entering the island. He emphasized the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking, stating, “The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force remains resolute in our effort to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat any drug trafficking activities on our island.”
On April 3, 2024, police seized 696.82 kilograms (1,533 pounds) of cocaine from a vessel named La-mere Fatal, which was beached at Cabana Bay in Marigot. Valerie noted that the occupants of the vessel fled after being pursued by the Dominica Coast Guard. No charges have been made in connection with this incident, but investigations are continuing.
In a separate incident on April 12, 2024, authorities discovered and confiscated 696.36 kilograms (1,532 pounds) of cocaine and 37 pounds of cannabis on a farm in the Castle Bruce area. One individual has been arrested and charged in connection with this seizure.
On May 1, 2024, officers seized 510 kilograms of cocaine at Everton Estate in Loubiere. Valerie stated that investigations into this matter are ongoing.
Most recently, on May 28, 2024, seventeen bales of cocaine weighing 575 kilograms (1,265 pounds) were intercepted at sea on the East Coast of Dominica. Valerie indicated that a foreign vessel found beached in Delices is believed to have transported the shipment. Investigations into this incident are also underway.
Valerie reassured the public of the police force’s unwavering commitment to addressing the drug trafficking issue in Dominica and encouraged continued vigilance and cooperation from the community.
