Acting Police Chief Davidson Valerie has commended the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) for their significant achievements in combating illegal drug trafficking. Highlighting recent operations, Valerie reported the substantial seizure of narcotics, including 16,798 grams of cannabis and a striking 696,360 grams of cocaine, which took place on April 12, 2024, in Castle Bruce and Marigot.
The operation was notably successful with the recovery of 696.82 kilograms (approximately 1,533 pounds) of cocaine from a beached vessel named La-mere Fatal at Cabana Marigot.
The vessel had been abandoned by its occupants following a pursuit by the Dominica Coast Guard, leading to its seizure along with the drugs on board. This event alone has led to the arrest and ongoing interrogation of four individuals linked to the incident.
Valerie emphasized the police force’s unwavering commitment to thwarting the efforts of drug traffickers who attempt to use Dominica as a base for their operations. The estimated street value of the cocaine seized is approximately EC$18.6 million, underscoring the magnitude of this bust.
In addition to outlining the details of these operations, Valerie expressed his gratitude towards the dedicated officers of the Dominica Police Force. He praised their diligence and dedication to duty, which have been crucial in achieving these significant results in the fight against drug trafficking.
The police force plans to continue and intensify their efforts to capture traffickers and prevent the illegal drug trade within the nation’s borders, ensuring that criminals are brought to justice.
