Dominica Records 10 New Cases of COVID-19, Imported Into the Country

Ten new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Dominica. This development was announced by Dr. Laura Esprit of the Chief Medical Officer’s office during the weekend. She disclosed that the 10 new cases are comprised of six males and four females with ages ranging from 30-73 years.

According to Esprit, five of the cases were discovered at the health screening facility of the Douglas Charles Airport following their arrival in the country, and the other five were detected through PCR testing after five days of quarantine at a government facility.

“All ten were imported cases, quarantined from the date of arrival, and subsequently admitted to the COVID Isolation Unit for management and close monitoring,” Dr. Esprit revealed.

She further revealed that a total of 106 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the country and that 98 of these have been treated and discharged following their full recovery. This leaves eight active cases and zero related deaths on the island. Esprit commended the government and the health authorities for the zero COVID-19 death in Dominica, saying the health and safety protocols implemented in the country were effective.

To further reduce the risks of coronavirus infection and transmission in the country, the government continues to advocate for face masks, washing of hands, social distancing, and avoidance of large social gatherings.
