Dominica Records 4 New COVID-19 Cases; Marigot Hospital Ready in 4 Months

The Ministry of Health announced that there are currently four active COVID-19 cases in Dominica. Health Minister Dr. Irving McIntyre revealed that there were zero COVID-19 cases in the country last week; but this changed to four cases within a week.

According to McIntyre, the four new cases were not community infections but recorded from people in 5-day quarantine. He said the community remains free and no contacts are under investigations at the moment. While a total of 180 positive cases were confirmed since in Dominica since the pandemic made a landfall, there is no single related death in the country, he stated.

“We had zero cases last week,” said McIntyre. “We remain at zero deaths which is important for us, and in terms of the total confirmed cases we’ve had since we began last year it’s only just 180…we have zero cases under investigation now.”

Meanwhile, the Marigot Hospital has been scheduled for completion in four months. This was revealed by the project director for MMCE Ltd., Cal Murad, who said the health facility will have several features. These include two operating theatres, three maternity wards, four male and three female wards, as well as children wards among other specialized units.
