Dominica Records Two Separate Homicides in First Few Hours of New Year 2022
Dominica has recorded two separate homicides in the first few hours of the New Year 2022. The first murder was that of Miron Benjamin and the second was that of Stephen Paul Jr., aka 2Pac. The police are currently investigating both murders.
The body of Benjamin was first discovered with fatal stabbing wounds along Goodwill Road on January 1. He was from Cochrane village; and his body was found between S-Mart Supermarket and Do-It Centre.
Eyewitnesses said Paul, 26, was shot in Trafalgar on January 2 and he later died that same day.
In 2021, the police recorded 10 murder cases across the country. Government authorities have always decried violence among youths and cautioned people against taking the laws into their own hands. Citizens are warned to resolve their differences amicably and through dialogue rather than violence, and to report any disputes to police authorities.
Police are still investigating the situations that led to the fatal stabbing of Benjamin and shooting of Paul respectively, and arrests may be made very soon. Earlier arrests made in connection with several 2021 murders are being tried in law courts and convictions made already.
This is a developing story and we will update it as soon as more details emerge from police authorities and family members of the deceased.
