Dominica Red Cross recognizes its many volunteers on International Volunteer Day

The Dominica Red Cross wishes to recognize its many volunteers on International Volunteer Day December 5, 2019. On this occasion volunteers worldwide are recognized for their invaluable humanitarian work.

The work of the Red Cross, and even its very existence, depends heavily on volunteers. Our volunteers are the most important resource to ensure effective and rapid response to disasters and health emergencies, as well as for the promotion and strengthening of resilience, prevention and development.

Our many volunteers serve their communities selflessly, which was particularly evident post, Hurricane Maria, when they ensured that many in the communities received the much-needed support. We hope that our unceasing recognition of their sterling contribution will inspire them to continue performing their volunteer service and to be the transformational power of the National Society in the communities we serve.

Volunteerism is a commitment that should not be allowed to fade away or become unattractive particularly to our youth; but instead, volunteerism should be promoted and encouraged as an essential act for the preservation of humanity.

The President, on behalf of the Governing Board of the Dominica Red Cross would therefore like to wish a Happy Volunteer’s Day to all Red Cross Volunteers for their invaluable support in making a positive change in our communities by strengthening and promoting volunteer work so that we may accomplish our humanitarian goals.
