The Ministry of Education has rejected the results of the 2020 CXC examination results and wants a thorough review. Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Chandler Hyacinth, said the government may delay releasing the results to parents and students until a thorough and satisfactory review of the results are obtained.
Hyacinth said school principals, teachers, and parents have raised their voices to condemn the results, and also seek clarification of certain ratings such as “ungraded” and “absent” in the results. The educational official confirmed that the Dominica Ministry of Education has received the 2020 CSEC, CAPE, and CCSLC exam results from CXC, and that the preliminary results are questionable in many areas.
The education ministry stated that in some schools, exam papers sat for by students were graded as absent and in some, all students in one school failed a particular subject. Hyacinth lamented a situation where all the students in one school will be graded as having failed a given subject, while an entire school was marked in one instant as not obtaining a single grade. She said the CXC is cooperating with inquiries and that individuals can also submit their own queries before the end of October.
“So we are raising these queries and requesting reviews from CXC; they are cooperating with us and they are submitting revised broadsheets as we make the queries,” the permanent secretary said. “While we are requesting reviews on a national level, individuals can query their results. There is a date by which all queries should be raised, October 23rd. There are also provisions for individuals to raise reviews or results which show ungraded or absent.”
In a similar fashion, other regional countries such as Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda, Guyana, and St. Lucia have also queried the 2020 CXC results and called for a review.
