Dominica’s Senior Women’s Team Secures Victory in Gold Cup Qualifier

In a significant turn of events, Dominica’s National Senior Women’s Team notched their first victory in the 2023 Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup Qualifier. Facing Antigua and Barbuda in an away match, the Dominica team secured a hard-fought 2-1 win. The triumph was particularly sweet, with midfielder Starr Starr Humphreys scoring both goals for Dominica.

Team captain Romelcia Phillip celebrated the well-deserved victory, emphasizing the team’s dedication and hard work. It was a pivotal moment for a team that had previously faced tough challenges in this qualifying tournament.

The journey to this historic victory began with a challenging opening home match against Suriname, which resulted in a 4-0 loss. Their first away game against Guyana was equally formidable, ending in a 5-0 defeat. However, the team’s fortunes improved with a goalless draw against Antigua and Barbuda.

With this win under their belt, Dominica’s senior women’s football team is now setting their sights on two final matches, one at home against Guyana in November, and another away against Suriname in December. Competing in League B of the Women Gold Cup Qualifiers, the team continues to demonstrate their commitment to making their mark on the international women’s football stage.

This victory serves as a testament to their resilience and determination to succeed, and it augurs well for their future endeavors in women’s football.
