Dominica Solid Waste Management launches waste management campaign for 2021

The Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation in its island-wide fight against littering, has developed a waste management campaign for 2021.

We are looking to officially launch the campaign on the 29th of March 2021. A response from you by Monday the 15th would be more that appreciated and we can have another face to face to discuss the partnership in detail before the official launching.

DSWMC looks forward to hearing from you soon, and how we can work together to help our Country in this very important venture.

The first aspect of the campaign begins in March with the School competition that will take the format listed below:

Tourism month is the month of May and we will be working with Discover Dominica Authority to bring awareness to our young minds, we have put together 3 various competitions, one for the Primary, Secondary and College students, respectfully. Kindly see competition as it varies between education level:

  • Primary School – A “Do Not Litter” poster
  • Secondary Schools – A “Do Not Litter” slogan competition; where the students get to create slogans on littering and a 15 seconds jingle with video for the slogan they come up with.
  • Tertiary Institutes – An essay competition with the topic: How does littering contribute to marine pollution and what are its effects on the Caribbean tourism (1500 words)

This will run during the month of April and May with the winner selected in May and prizes awarded to winners. The first phase is where the children create their posters and slogan, second- the judges narrow them down to a certain amount and these selections are placed online for voting by the general public and third winners selected.

The Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation (DSWMC), was established by the Solid Waste Management Act 17 of 1996, with the responsibility of developing solid waste management facilities for storage, collection, treatment and disposal of solid waste for matters incidental thereto. The Corporation commenced operations with effect from July 1, 1997.
