Dominica Solid Waste Urges Cooperation Amid Collection Challenges
The Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation (DSWMC) is addressing challenges that have led to delays in waste collection services across the island. The organization has called on both commercial and residential stakeholders to adopt proactive measures to mitigate the situation.
Commercial entities are advised to transport their waste directly to the Fond Cole Landfill or engage contractors for disposal services. Meanwhile, residential households are urged to practice waste management techniques, such as composting, recycling glass, plastics, and cans, and only place waste on designated collection days and times.
According to Rhoda St. John, Public Relations Officer for the DSWMC, these measures are critical to maintaining cleanliness during this period. St. John emphasized that residents should avoid leaving waste along roadsides, particularly in Roseau and other areas, to prevent further complications.
Highlighting the collective responsibility of waste management, St. John stressed the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. The corporation also remains committed to stakeholder engagement, aiming to optimize waste management strategies and services throughout 2025.
As DSWMC works to resolve these delays, the organization is keen to strengthen collaboration with all sectors to transform waste management practices across Dominica. Their efforts aim to ensure sustainable and efficient waste solutions for the island’s communities moving forward.
